Long pepper is a climber plant  which is  close relative to  the black pepper plant, It is  hotter in taste. It is capable of  cure many diseases like gastric problems, cough and cold, throat problems, digestion problems etc.. It can increase immunity power. It helps to destroy germs. It has the ability to increase the level of hemoglobin in blood. It is one of the main ingredients of cough syrups and Leghyams (Ayurveda Medicines).

Uses: Consuming it’s dried seed powder with honey can reduce cough problems.

Scientific name: Bacopa Monnieri

 Madar (Erukku) is a  high medicinal valued plant growing 1 to 2 meter high . The leaves and stem also has a lactic secretion, which is used in the treatment. Its use to clean the teeth, It’s leaves are using rheumatic treatments, especially  for knee pain.The white milk given out by the plant is smeared on bad teeth to clean them.

                                                                        Kacholam (കച്ചോലം )

This herb is a seasonal plant growing in monsoon  seasons, it’s leaves spreads on the ground.Rhizomes is the useful part of this plant.This mainly using the treatments of Skin diseases, wounds, fever and nasal obstruction etc.This is also using in the treatment of gastric problems.It is capable of controlling worm disturbance in small children, a small piece of dried  rhizome powder is mix with milk is very effective.

Tinospora (Amruth)അമൃത് 

Tinospora Cordifolia  is a climber plant  and it has a lot  of medicinal values. It is very effective for Cholesterol control, take a piece of ambrosia stem, boiled in water and drink 50 ml every day.It is  very effective for diabetic control too.

Asparagus is a powerful medicine in Ayurveda.The root of this plant are used as medicine,it is  the size of our little finger. This plant’s root help to  increase the breast milk , the juice maid by crushing and squeezing of the bulb mixed with either ghee or milk can consume as drink .Asparagus can be consumed in the form of  pickle ,it is good nourishment and gives energy to the body.

Holi Basil is a sub shrub growing  2- 5 feet high .This plant is medically very  important in Ayurveda treatment.It is planting  for religious and medicinal purposes in India. It has been used for thousands of years in Ayurveda for herbal treatments.  It is taken in many forms as herbal tea,dried powder,fresh leaf or mixed with ghee. It is also use as a mosquito repeller. The pulp of the leaves with turmeric helps to reduce swelling due to toxic insect bites.Juice of the plant leaf and juice leaf of beetle leaf is also used to treat insect bites.Its leaf juice alone can be used to treat cold diseases.Smelling of leaves can reduce head ache. 

  Leucas Indica( Thumba)തുമ്പ 

Betel leaf plant(Vettila)വെറ്റില 

Scientific name:Piperaceae 

The betel leaf plant is a climber  that growss 10-15ft with a supporter plant.Betel leaf plant is used in the preparation of the medicated oil (Murivenna or Chadavenna).For the treatment of the irritation in the skin caused due  spider bite ,take the juice of the leaf and apply with coconut oil. The juice of this plant is used for Nasyam(An Ayurvedic treatment in India) betel leaf is a remedy for bad breath, by chewing with calcium carbonate(Chunna) and Arecanut(Pakku).

Punarnava(Thazhuthama)തഴുതാമ 

Scientific name:Boerrhavia diffusa 

Spreading Hog weed is spreading fast in fertile soil in rainy season. It has been used in the Indian tribal as a therapeutic herb. The leaves are consume as a vegetable . The root juice is used to treat asthma, urinary disorders, leukorrhea, rheumatism and encephalitis etc.

               Spreading Hog weed lowers serum uric acid, which is helpful in treating urogenital disorders.It is beneficial in treating urinary tract infections.The herb is also helpful in the treatment of asthma and inflammatory conditions like rheumatism.

Desmodium (Orila)ഓരില 

Scientific name:Desmodium gangeticum

This is a small plant .It is widely use in Ayurveda for the treatment of neurological disorders .The root of the plant can reduce tooth ache and used in diarrhea treatment too .It is also used to treat gall bladder stones.

  Viscid pseudarthria (Moovila)മൂവില 

Scientific name:Pseudarthria viscida W&A

Pseudarthria viscida is commonly known as Moovila(Three leaves) growing  up to 1 feet.It is an important herbal plant in the traditional medicine. The root is one of the Dasamoola(10 roots) in Ayurveda. It is used to treat ulcer, hepatic disorders, bronchitis,etc. 

Balloon Wine(Valliyuzhinja)വള്ളിയുഴിഞ്ഞ 

 Scientific name:Cardiospermum halicacabum Linn.

  

This is a small climber plant grows  with tendrils  with 1 to 1.5 meter high with other plant’s support. This using to treat stomach problems.main Ingredient of Karkidaka kanji in Kerala Ayurveda treatment of rheumatism.It can reduce many of physical problems which is using in rainy seasons in the month of July-August (Karkidakam). 

Indian Rock foil(Panikkorkka)പനി കൂർക്ക 
 Scientific name:Coleusaromatis Benth

Indian rock foil is use to treat fever both the stem and leaves are used for medicine.The children  can get good sleep and immunity from various illnesses.The juice of leaves is mixed with honey and drink to get rid of fever.Worms can be treated by drinking the juice of its leaves with honey.Juice of the leaves is able to reduce cold and cough,which can apply on head.

Neem (Aryavep)ആര്യവേപ്പ് 

Scientific name: Azadirachta indica Juss

 

Neem  plant is growing about  15  feet high.It has yellow fruits is also medicinal quality.It has been used as an insecticide in ancient times .It acts as an  astringent, and antiseptic too. It is anti diabetic, anti bacterial and anti viral properties.It is used to treat gastric problems, worms and ulcers. It is also useful in malarial fever. The leaves are used to cure chicken pox. Neem tea is usually taken to reduce the headache and fever.  Neem bark acts as an analgesic and can cure high fever. Even the skin diseases can be cured through the Neem leaves. it is  effective for preventing periodontal disease. 

Pomegranate (Mathalanarakam)മാതളനാരകം 

Scientific name:punica granatum

Pomegranates  are  benefit to  the heart and blood vessels. It’s major component Punicalagins are the  responsible for this.It is also antioxidant . They reduce cholesterol,  blood pressure and increase the speed at which heart blockages (atherosclerosis) melt away.In other studies, potent antioxidant compounds found in pomegranates have shown to reduce platelet aggregation. Pomegranates good for breast cancer, prostate cancer, colon cancer, leukemia and to prevent vascular changes.

Pomegranate is using traditional treatments for diarrhea, dried fruit shell’s  powder mix with 1 teaspoon of honey or 50 ml of buttermilk and drink daily  2-3 times.  

Black Vasa, Black malabar nut(Vathamkolli)വാതം കൊല്ലി 

Scientific name:Justicia gendarussa Burm.f

The Vatamkolli means Rheumatism killer  is used to treat Rheumatism(vatham) , headache ,cough, bronchitis, migraine(Kodinji), fever etc. For rheumatic pain whole plant boiled in water and use it to take bath.Smelling it’s root is capable to reduce migraine pain. 

Clerodendrum (Perikilam,Oruveran)

പെരികിലം , ഒരുവേരൻ 

Scientific name:clerodendrum viscosum vent 

It is a single rooted plant ,growing up to one meter high.The root of clerodendrum is used as a medicine to treat acidity .It is also used to treat sprains.Dried root’s powder mix with jaggery can consume daily for  acidity problems.

Karimkurinji കരിംകുരിഞ്ഞി 

Scientific name:Strobulanthus heiniyanus 

This plant is use to treat rheumatic diseases, leaves of Karumkurinji are heated first and then grind and applied externally on affected areas. For tooth pain, the whole plat is boil with water and used as gargle. Kurinji kuzhambu is a very effective medicine for post natal care.

For diabetes and Urinary tract infections this is very effective.leaves are externally applied for skin diseases.

For rheumatic Arthritis, the leaves of Karimkurinji are baked and tied into bundles in a piece of cloth called Kizhi and used for heating on the affected area after oil application.

Yellow Zedoary (Koova)കൂവ 

Scientific name:Curcuma Aromatica Salish

It helps to get rid of germs and poison .The chemical in Curcumin help to enhance the beauty of the skin . According to Ayurveda it has body heating nature and is bitter in taste .The plant is use to get relief from sprains and fractures .The paste made from plant and cinnamon leaf is smeared on the affected area.

Thorn apple(Ummam)ഉമ്മം

It is fast growing plant with thorny fruits .  This is mainly using to treat Asthma.In India in Ayurvedic treatments the leaves are generally smoked either in a cigarette or a pipe. This practice of smoking  to relieve asthma

Wild senna is an important herb in Ayurvedic treatments .The seed, root and leaf of plant is used to treat skin diseases, rheumatic ailments.This plant can consume as a vegetable,it is capable to increase the eye power.

 

Drum stick Plant (Moringa or Muringa)മുരിഞ്ഞ

Scientific name: Moringa oleifera

 The Drum stick plant’s grows about 20 feet hight. It’s leaves, bark, flowers, fruit, seeds, and root are used to make medicine.It’s leaves and fruit consumed as vegetable.Drum stick plant is considered an important medicine in Ayurveda.All part of the plant is using to various treatments.Traditionally it is using to make tonics
It is used to treat anemia,arthritis and rheumatism, asthma etc.It is also helpful to treat cancer,constipation, diabetes, diarrhea, epilepsy,etc. Leaf’s juice is capable to reduce high blood pressure.It can take orally with honey,that is also good for increase HB in blood.For increasing breast milk production,it’s leaves fry with egg and have it daily for tree or five days.Drum stick plant contains proteins, vitamins, and minerals abundantly.

Ash colored fleabane (Poovankurunnila)പൂവാങ്കുരുന്നില 

Scientific name: Vernonia cinerea (Linn.) Less.

This is an annual herb grows up to 50-60 cm. in height. Flowers are pinkish violet.All part of the plant has medicinal value which is very effective for tonsillitis, stomach pain, diarrhea,  herpes and ringworm etc.It has anti cancerous property.

Cassia (Ponnaraveeran)പുന്നരവീരൻ 

Scientific name: 

Ponnaraveeran plant belong to Cassia family which also yellow flowered plant. This plant growing up to 5- 7 feet high.This is medically important for the treatment of eye.It leaves and flowers can consume as a vegetable and it is very tasty,which  may help to improve vision problems. 

 

Hemigraphis (Murikooti)മുറികൂട്ടി

Hemigraphis (Murikootti)is plant is growing abundantly in fertile soil up to 6- 8 cm.This can consume as vegetable.this is very effective for fast curing of fresh wound or cuts,It is also used to treat ulcers, inflammation etc.In folk medicines, it is taking internally for anemia.

                                                     

                                                     Crape Ginger(Kattukarimbu)കട്ടുകരിമ്പ്

Crape ginger or malay ginger is a wild plant with red flowers,growing 1 to 1.5 feet. Stem of this plant is used in traditional treatment for eye diseases like Madras (eye),heat the stems gently and squeeze to take the juice and pour in to the eye. 

Henna  (mailanji)മൈലാഞ്ചി 

Scientific name :Lawsonia inermis Linn. 

Henna is a large shrub grows up to 3 m.height with small leaves and fragrant small white flowers .This plant is used to treat pain, ulcer, edema, hair fall, graying of hair, burning sensation, headache, hepatitis, skin diseases, anemia etc.All the parts of the plants are useful.Dried leaf powder is used to do henna,it helps to keep our head cool and coloring of hair black.Leaves paste is used decorate hands of girls with traditional drawing like tattoo.This is very effective for agnail treatment,well grinded leaves with row turmeric and keep it over infected area.

Castor oil seed plant(Avanakku) is very important medicinal plant  to take medicinal oil very early it is used for rheumatic treatments.It is growing about 5 meter height.Oil is getting from dried fruits extract.Young leaf fry in gee and use for night blindness.

This plant is native of North America, it is growing and spread  very fast.All the parts of the plants are  used as medicine.This plant is very effective for body pain or joint pain due to Chikungunya,whole plant boiled in water and used to take bath or well  grinded leaf apply on joints occasionally can get relief from pain. Leaf juice is used to cure wounds. Plant leaf and turmeric together grind well and apply for skin diseases.

Cherula is a annual plant with small thick white flowers which is an important herbal medicine in Ayurveda treatment of  both kidney stone and bladder stone.This is the one of Deshapuzhpa in Ayurveda.

Cinnamon (Edana)എടന 

Scientific name:Olea Malabarica Kostel  

Cinnamon is mainly used as a spice ,used in Indian curries and as a part of the garam masala.This plant is is growing up to 30-35 feet high. It’s bark and leaves are used as spices. it is medically important in Ayurveda treatment.Consuming half teaspoon of the bark powder  every day helps in reducing blood sugar, cholesterol etc.It is also capable to reduces the proliferation of leukemia and lymphoma cancer cells.

Cardamom (Elakka)ഏലക്ക 

Scientific name: Elettaria cardamomum

Cardamom is used as a medicine and flavorings in both food and drink, as cooking spices.

Green cardamom is broadly used to treat infections in teeth and gum .To prevents and treats throat troubles, congestion of the lungs and pulmonary tuberculosis, inflammation of eyelids and also digestive disorders. It also is used to break up kidney stones and gall stones, and was reportedly used as an antidote for both snake and scorpion venom.

One or two pod of cardamom powder mix with 1 tea spoon of honey can use daily is good for health.  

Pepper (Kurumulak)കുരുമുളക് 

Scientific name:Piper nigrum

Pepper is most important one in Ayurvedic treatments. It capable to prevent viral infections.  Dried pepper has been used since antiquity for both its flavor and as a medicine Black pepper is the world’s most traded spice. The spiciness of black pepper is due to the chemical piperine.

Pepper can use as an ingredient of food materials. It reduces stomach problems and also capable to reduce cold diseases.  

Thannikka(താന്നിക്ക )

Scientific name:Belleric myrobalan

  

The pulp of the fruit is considered by Ayurvedic physicians to be astringent and laxative, and is prescribed with salt and long pepper in affections of the throat and chest. As a constituent of the triphala (three fruits),  it is employed in a great number of diseases, and the kernel is sometimes used as an external application to inflamed parts.

Haritaki(Kadukka)കടുക്ക 

Scientific name:Chebulic Myrobalan

It is used in people who have  skin disorders, anemia, piles, chronic, intermittent fever, heart disease, diarrhea, anorexia, cough etc.In ancient times this was used to make ink.This is one of Tribhala friuts.

 Bishop’s weed(Ayamodhakam)അയമോദകം 

Scientific name: Trachyspermum ammi

Bishop’s weed is mainly using for gastric problems like gas trouble etc.It gives good digestion while using with food items.For Hoo Vernonia cinerea (Linn.) Less.k-worm and other intestinal worms, small doses either of the Bishop’s weed may be given continuously for some weeks. For children a small quantity of Bishop’s weed is fried in ghee, mixed with a little common salt and given along with rice.

Nutmeg (Jathikka)ജാതിക്ക 

                                                    Scientific name: Myristica fragrans

This plant is growing up to 20-25 feet high .This is a seasonal fruit with hard shell inside ,it is covered with a red colored thing,inside of it there is an cork like substance is called nut meg .Nutmeg is medically important to treat a number of ailments like gastric problems ,worm seems in small children etc.  

How to make Ayurvedic Medicines

Murivenna or Chadavenna
മുറിവെണ്ണ 

Uses:

Murivenna Oil is an effective Ayurvedic medicine for fast cure of fresh or old cuts and  wounds .We can use it externally or internally for different treatments.It is also good for the treatment of fractures and sprains.It can use as a pain reliever especially arthritis pain.It can also use as massage oil. 

 Ingredients of Murivenna Thailam: 

1.Coconut oil (velichenna)-1 kg.

2.Beetellaves (vettila)-250g.

3.Aloe vera (kattarvazha)-500g

4.Moringa oliefera Leaves(Muringa ela)-250g.

5.Small Onion (Ulli)-500g.

6.Asparagus racemosus(Shadavary Kizhangu)250.g

7.Spermacoce articularis(Tharthaval vella)250g.

8.Erythrina variegata(Murikku Ela)250g.

9.Pongamia pinnata(Ungu patta)500g

10.Oryza Sativa (Nellu)Rice washed water

Pongima pinnata  bark keep in  rice washed water for 3-4 hours and  after that take to press and squeeze well it for juice, repeat it several time keep it in a vessel first, it would be about 1 -1.5 liters.Aloe Vera make pieces and mix with Onion and Asparagus to make a pulp and keep it in an another vessel.All the leaves(Beetel,Moringa,Spermacoce and pongima)are mix together and take its juice and keep it in an another vessel. Boil the coconut oil in a bronze vessel (Uruli) with first mixture for 3-4 hours, stir it occasionally till the water presents end and then add the second mixture, stir it for 1 hour in boiling oil,  then add the third mixture and stir it well till the sediment became sticky. Filter it well and keep it in an open vessel till it became cold.

                                To reduce over body weight 

                                     

Ingredients

1.Green tea

2.Bishop weed-20g.

3.Cinnamon-20g.

4. Fennel seed-20g.

5.cardamom-1

As required green tea boil in half glass of water. After boiling it add a pinch of mixture of powdered bishop weed ,cinnamon,cardamon and fennel seed and drink it daily for one moth after bed.

രണ്ടോ മൂന്നോ ഗ്രീൻ ടി ഇല ചുരുൾ 50 മില്ലി  വെള്ളത്തിൽ തിളപ്പിച്ച്‌  അതിൽ പൊടിയാക്കിയ അയമോദകം ,കറുവപ്പട്ട ,ഏലക്ക ,പെരുംജീരകം എന്നിവയിൽനിന്ന് ഒരു നുള്ള് ഇട്ടു  ദിവസവും രാവിലെ വെറും വയറ്റിൽ ഒരു മാസത്തേക്ക് കുടിക്കുക അമിത വണ്ണം കുറഞ്ഞുകിട്ടും .
