Heart disease is one of the leading causes of death for women. Practicing lifestyle improvements such as better eating habits and getting fit through proper daily exercise is important to reduce a woman’s risk of heart disease.
Decreased risk for cardiovascular disease results when you strengthen your muscles- that includes your heart- by resistance exercise and aerobic exercise. Giving your body the nutrients it needs for proper function helps in this regard as well.
Eat foods that are heart healthy; favor fresh fruits and vegetables and avoid fatty and sugary food. Stay well away from saturated and transfat oils and limit your caffeine intake. Watch not only what foods you eat but how they are prepared- roast or broil instead of fry meats.
Manage your weight to lower your heart attack risk. Stay away from fad diets. They can drain you of nourishment and once you go off them, you will gain all the weight back and them some. Rather, choose to eat a balanced range of foods; you’ll get all the vitamins and minerals your body needs.
Keep your heart healthy fit by getting enough exercises every day. Good heart exercises are walking, jogging, swimming, cycling, dancing, and pretty much anything that will get you up and moving so your heart rate goes over its’ resting rate.
Physically inactive individuals are at increased risk for heart disease. Women between the ages of 18 and 65 should be getting a minimum of 30 minutes of moderate to intense activity each day. If you are over 50 or have any conditions such as hypertension, diabetes or asthma see your doctor before staring any new exercise regimen.
